Vaduz Cathedral in front of the Alps

Liechtenstein (Liechtenstein) is the sixth smallest landlocked country in the world, with a land area of only 160 square kilometers. At the same time, it is also one of only two double landlocked countries in the world. The capital, Vaduz, is located in the center of the country, beside the Rhine (Rhine) and is the official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. From here, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Alps. Before we went to St. Gallen (St. Gallen), we stayed here for 2 hours to add another country to our travel history!

Liechtenstein Visitor Centre

Liechtenstein Visitor Center

Our first stop was the Liechtenstein Visitor Centre. Pay €3 here to get the seal of the Principality of Liechtenstein on your passport as a memorial! In addition to this, the Visitor Center also provides rich travel information and recommendations for recent activities and attractions, which is very useful.

Vaduz Cathedral

Vaduz Cathedral

Vaduz Cathedral, built in 1874, is a neo-gothic Roman Catholic cathedral with 16 members of the royal family buried in the royal tomb on the back. The interior design of the seat is solemn, and the flower window design is unique, which is impressive.

Government building Regierungsgebäude

Government buildings

Liechtenstein's government building was built between 1903 and 1905 and was the seat of the National Assembly. The façade of the building is decorated with three glass mosaic paintings. The left side of the round window depicts the female executive in the fable, holding a helm wheel, and the right side is the goddess of justice holding a law book and walking stick. The central area above the three arched windows shows the Liechtenstein national emblem with a blue starry sky in the background.

Vaduz Town Hall

Vaduz Town Hall

By contrast, the design rules of Vaduz Town Hall seem rather understated. The city emblem is engraved above the entrance, and the wall painting on the veranda on the side depicts the patron saint of grape planters (unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the side!).

Vaduz Castle

Vaduz castle model

Vaduz Castle was built in the 12th century and is currently the residence of the Grand Duke's family, so it's not open to the public. Despite not being able to visit the inside of the castle, the short film “Princely Moments” played by Altes Kino in Vaduz provided an interesting insight behind the city walls and introduced the history of the castle and royal palace.

handwriting

There are several boutiques on the street in Vaduz, offering Liechtenstein postcards, stamps, magnets and other souvenirs. Also, there are Asian, French, and Swiss-inspired restaurants on the street. Although we haven't eaten here, there are good reviews of these restaurants online.

museums

There are three museums in total in Vaduz: the Art Museum, the National Museum, and the Stamp Museum. If you're interested in Liechtenstein's history and culture, and your travel time allows, then it's definitely worth spending a full day exploring Liechtenstein.
